POEH AH KA WOHATSEY: THE EMERGENCE TEACHINGS OF RESILIENCE
A new mural in the Art Through Struggle Gallery in We Are of This Place: The Pueblo Story, the IPCC’s permanent exhibition, will be unveiled on June 28, 2024. This 7-panel painting is designed and created by NSRGNTS, two Indigenous artists based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a commission for the IPCC. NSRGNTS is Leah Povi Marie Lewis (Laguna, Taos, Zuni Pueblos/Hopi/Diné) and Votan Henriquez (Maya/Nahua). Their mural focuses on Pueblo empowerment of the past, present, and future and is painted in vivid colors in a “Kawaii” style-a “cute” illustrative style similar to anime. The artwork’s visual story places emphasis on Po’pay as a Pueblo role model and a figure of strength. It invites storytelling and teaching for all ages through an approachable style that is accessible even for our youngest visitors and community members.

The smell of the earth after a hearty rainstorm is something we all love. Water is used to form the clay from which water jars are made. Our hot desert climate is a constant reminder to stay hydrated. The burst of a sweet watermelon during a hot summer day is one of our Pueblo people's greatest joys. This collaborative installation between two writers and two visual artists with words, poetry, and visual arts speaks to how this combination of mediums can be done in a cyclical way. The artists, Dr. Anthony Fleg, Mallery Quetawki (Zuni), Blythe Mariano (Diné), and Chilán Mustain, worked together to create an installation in motion, and the vision they bring to this space is from a contemporar...

Many of our Native families strive to compete with the western way of surviving. We send our children to schools and colleges outside of our communities with the hopes that they can earn a living to support themselves economically. We want them to return and continue our traditional culture at the same time so that it doesn’t die or fade away. There is a constant battle, so to speak, between th...

Nature can’t be wonderful if we treated fair. One book that you should recommend is lands of the conquistadors . That book writes adout 16:32 life that doesn’t exist anymore hard to believe that type of life existed. The pictures you show are taken probably in the 1800s or so , what I would like to know the name of the Pueblo that is now called Santa Fe. I believe that Pueblo was one of the most powerful pueblos in that region that Pueblo was robbed and taken down to build the castle they call the cathedral in Santa Fe today. Also what year was the castle cathedral built and why was it built
